In 2016, Antony Woodcock and his brother identified a market ripe for disruption.

As owners and operators of the sushi business, Maki, the two brothers noticed many young workers wanting to plan work around their lifestyle. Having worked in various positions within the hospitality industry – from kitchen porter to Director – Antony understood the benefits a flexible working strategy offered the industry’s notorious seasonal fluctuations. As a millennial himself, Antony also realised the potential of a digitalized, on-demand staffing platform had in today’s evolving, mobile-centric world and as a result, GIG was born. Gig connects businesses in the hospitality, warehousing and retail sectors with workers looking to fit their working hours more readily around their lifestyles. As an advocate of the gig economy in the hospitality industry and beyond, Antony also believes in ‘Making Gig Work, Work’ - a campaign led by GIG to reform and improve the gig economy for both its workers and operators. More on this movement can be found at MakeGigWorkWork.co.uk In working with an increasingly diverse portfolio of clients, Antony is focusing on developing both the GIG concept and brand across the UK, with a future vision to enter the Continental European market.

GIG started in 2016 with no clients and no users and last year turned over in excess of £5M with 15,000 unique users. Antony is also amazon Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2018.
