Top apps for new business owners on a budget

Small business owners have access to more productivity tools than ever before. This has allowed owners to organize, streamline, and automate many of the processes involved in the day-to-day running of their business. Apps are definitely something you should take advantage off if you are a brand-new start-up, or small business. Take a look at some of the best apps in the market that are free or come at little cost for you to use.

Skype is a proven and reliable communication platform, and best of all, you can make Skype to Skype calls for free. Further, with Skype video conferencing, you can bring up to 25 colleagues and team members together and still not pay a dime – making the perfect app for you to hold conference calls and group meetings. This is a brilliant option that can easily substitute for expensive travel, saving you time, hassle and money.

Social media is a must for many small businesses. Hootsuite is a social media managing platform which brings your channels together under one roof. The app lets you schedule your posts, report on your online presence, gather content and measure performance.

Hootsuite has a free version, but the premium tiers have additional tools for managing and monitoring your social media efforts.

Your website should be the digital storefront of your business. Wix can help you achieve this. As a DIY website creator with drag and drop functionality, Wix allows for quick and easy creation of a fully functional website. The features on Wix allow you to create a website with its Artificial Design Intelligence or the Wix Editor which includes the ability to add advanced functionality such as mobile optimization, SEO, eCommerce and more. Although there are paid packages (which are well worth the £3+ a month) you can create a Wix website for free.

Email is seen as one of the best communication tools for business. MailChimp is designed to simplify the process of sending emails. Whether you are trying to reach a limited audience or wanting to launch a large marketing campaign, MailChimp has the tools for creating, managing, and tracking the performance of each email. With the free version giving you 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month and the paid version starting at just £8 p/m to give you unlimited subscribers and emails, you’d be silly not to take advantage of this great service!

Lumen5 is a great software that enables those with the lack of time or expertise to create impactful videos for their business. With its simple approach to making videos, including the ability to add effects, motions and music, this free services is definitely worth checking out. It has different video formats, enabling you to push out much-needed video promotions to all your social media platforms, increasing your engagement with potential customers.

If you have limited budget you should definitely do your research into the free or cheap apps available to you in the market. Like the apps above, they can be a hugely valuable benefit to your business and make your life a whole lot easier! We should say, these are recommended by us based on our experiences - we aren't paid to promote them to you. The Northern Business Expo is all about impartial advice for you and your business, all for free, so why not get your ticket today? It's in March at Manchester Central - see you there!
